Our History
In 1984, Kent Hudson and Carsie Denning became intrigued with the issues and challenges associated with educational facilities. They recognized the issues of aging facilities with high deferred maintenance, tight budgets that were getting tighter, resource limitations - all coupled with increasing demands and expectations for a better environment. They also understood that if facility professionals were to meet this challenge, they would have to use technology as aggressively as the private sector.
In order to assist facility professionals in meeting this challenge, Kent and Carsie founded Applied Computer Technologies, or "ACT", and offered CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems) to America's schools. During the DOS technology era, and then the Windows era, they worked diligently to help America's schools utilize technology. Under their leadership, ACT grew to serve nearly 30% of the nation's schools. But even with that level of success, they realized that technology was not being leveraged well enough to really address the tough challenges faced by facility professionals.
Kent Hudson founded SchoolDude.com in 1999 in order to help educational institutions, large and small, leverage the power of the Internet to streamline the facilities operation. The huge success of SchoolDude in educational facilities lead to a discussion of making these web native applications available to the commercial facility managers. Knowing there are many differences, yet also recognizing a "building is a building", the applications have been and will continue to be modified to meet the unique requirements of the commercial facilities sector.
Kent Hudson, Carsie Denning, Tom Knox, and Brian Bell joined together in early 2006 to found FacilityDude; taking these proven web native applications and best in class business practices to the commercial property venue. FacilityDude.com is made up of a team of professionals, many of whom used to work together, that have served the in a broad range of capabilities in both the public and private sectors for over 20 years.
Just as the worldwide technology platform shifted from DOS to Windows in the early nineties, the same is now occurring as the world moves from Windows to a web native Internet design. Where DOS and Windows solutions are very limited in how much they can assist a facility professional, the Internet and FacilityDude.com are unlimited!
